Anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness and involve excessive fear or anxiety. Anxiety disorders are the most common of mental disorders and affect nearly 30 percent of adults at some point in their lives in USA . According to the National Institute of Mental Health, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in India, affecting 40 million adults in India age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population. In fact, anxiety disorders are the most common mental health disorder in children and adolescents, affecting an estimated 6.8% of kids between the ages of 3 and 17 in India .But anxiety disorders are treatable and a number of effective treatments are available. Treatment helps most people lead normal productive lives.

Causes

The causes of anxiety disorders are currently unknown but likely involve a combination of factors including genetic, environmental, psychological and developmental. Anxiety disorders can run in families, suggesting that a combination of genes and environmental stresses can produce the disorders.

Diagnosis and Treatment
